چکیده

A Next Generation Network (NGN) application is an application that provides a value–added service seamlessly across an integrated network consisting of a combination of packet–switched, circuit–switched, wireless and wireline networks. Such an application is likely to be developed using a set of open, standard APIs. These APIs provide a level of abstraction to shield the application programmers from the underlying complexities of heterogeneous networks. As a result, these APIs facilitate rapid service development by allowing an application developer to focus on the functionality (that is, what is provided), rather than on the implementation (that is, how it is provided). The importance of open, standard APIs in encouraging the growth of a community of application developers is evident from a number of initiatives to develop such APIs and environments providing these APIs. These initiatives include JAIN [2]TM,1, OSA/PARLAY [3], and 3GPP [1]. Although these APIs facilitate rapid service creation by eliminating the need to understand the peculiarities of the underlying network infrastructures, the quality assurance of these services will require a service developer to become fully cognizant of such details. This requirement, which is primarily due to the lack of a consistent methodology for quality assurance, significantly mitigates the advantage of decreased development time gained by using open, standard APIs. A systematic framework for QoS assurance based on open, standard APIs provides an integrated approach for rapid service creation as well as quality assurance of these services and is the focus of this paper. The QoS assurance framework described in this paper is based on the use of JAINTM,2 APIs.

Multimedia Traffic Delivery over Next - Generation Telecommunications Networks Tampere 2004

Third-generation (3G) systems have created the basis for multimedia services with Quality of Service (QoS) support on the move. It is expected that 3G architecture and related QoS provision approaches will evolve to face the challenges of future Next-Generation Networks (NGN). QoS assurance frameworks developed for fixed networks bring a huge experience to many areas. Often QoS in fixed network...

An Efficient End-to-End QoS Supporting Algorithm in NGN Using Optimal Flows and Measurement Feed-Back for Ubiquitous and Distributed Applications

This paper proposes an efficient end-to-end QoS supporting mechanism in Next Generation Network (NGN) with heterogeneous QoS capability to support ubiquitous and distributed applications. To address this, there should be proper admission control mechanism and adaptive provisioning to sustain end-to-end QoS and maximize network utilization. Resource and Admission Control Subsystem of NGN has uni...

Next Generation Networking Quality of Service

The next generation network is an IP-based network aimed at supporting the still growing use of real-time multimedia applications on a wide variety of infrastructures, from mobile to fixed. Quality of Service is a major part of the NGN, allowing guaranteed bandwidth and assured arrival of packets. This paper looks at the Quality of Service solutions both in NGN and in development elsewhere to d...

Technologies for Next Generation Optical Access Network

Introduction of the GE-PON system has accelerated the use of FTTH in Japan, changing the access network from simply an Internet connection to a social infrastructure that provides services directly related to daily life, such as IP telephone service. Mitsubishi Electric has the largest share of the GE-PON market in Japan and is now working on the next generation GE-PON. The role of the NGN is b...
